PrepQ ("we," "us," or "our") operates prepq.health, an AI-powered patient education platform providing physician-authored procedure preparation guidance. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Information We Collect

When you register or use PrepQ, we may collect:

Email address — used to identify your account and send account-related communications.
Name — used to personalize your experience.
Role — whether you are a healthcare professional or patient (self-reported).
Phone number — only if you voluntarily opt in to receive SMS messages (see Section 3). Never collected without explicit consent.
Usage data — anonymous, aggregate data about which features are used (usage analytics contain no PHI).

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide access to physician-authored procedure preparation content.
To send product updates and educational content related to PrepQ (email).
To send procedure preparation reminders and care information via SMS, only if you have explicitly opted in.
To improve our platform based on aggregate, de-identified usage data.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising.

3. SMS Messaging

Opt-in: SMS messages are sent only to users who explicitly check the SMS opt-in checkbox on our registration page. The checkbox is unchecked by default — you must actively select it to receive texts. Providing your phone number does not automatically enroll you in SMS.

By opting in, you agree to receive SMS messages from PrepQ, including procedure preparation reminders, pre-op instructions, and recovery information. Message frequency varies based on your procedure schedule.

Message and data rates may apply. Carrier fees are the responsibility of the recipient.

To opt out at any time: Reply STOP to any PrepQ SMS message. You will receive one final confirmation and will be removed from all future SMS communications immediately. You may also opt out by contacting us at [email protected].

We do not share your phone number with third parties for marketing purposes. Phone numbers are stored securely and used solely for the SMS communications you have consented to receive. SMS consent records are maintained in compliance with carrier regulations.

Mobile information and SMS opt-in consent will not be sold, rented, or shared with any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Information may be shared only with the medical practice of which you are a patient, and with service providers strictly as necessary to deliver these messages, who may not use it for their own purposes.

4. Data Sharing

We may share your information with trusted service providers who assist us in operating our platform (e.g., email delivery, SMS delivery, database hosting). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. SMS consent records are retained as required by applicable law and carrier regulations. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

6. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information.

Protected health information. When PrepQ provides its patient communication service on behalf of a medical practice, PrepQ acts as a business associate of that practice under HIPAA and operates under a Business Associate Agreement with it. In that role PrepQ may receive, maintain, and transmit protected health information — including the content of messages and calls a patient chooses to send — solely as necessary to provide the service and as permitted by that agreement and by HIPAA. Message and call content is screened and direct identifiers are removed inside a controlled environment before any question content is passed to the components that generate a response. Voice recordings are encrypted and automatically deleted within twenty-four hours. PrepQ does not use PHI for advertising, and does not sell it.

7. Children's Privacy

PrepQ is intended for adults (18+) and healthcare professionals. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 18 years of age.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of PrepQ after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
