Press & Published Work

PrepQ in the news

PrepQ is built by two practicing anesthesia and pain physicians. When we write about the patient education problem, we write about the version of it we actually ran into in clinic. Published pieces are listed here in full, at the publisher, not rewritten for our own site.

Patient Education Has to Work Without a New App

By Keith Schmidt, MD, Co-founder, PrepQ

Patient education has a distribution problem as well as a content problem. A practice can have a carefully written procedure handout and still have a patient who cannot find it at 9 pm. The piece lays out a practical way for healthcare leaders to evaluate a patient question channel: design for the moment of need, name a clinical owner and a review date, draw the line where a question stops being general education and needs a clinician, and measure completed work instead of message volume.

For editors and reporters

We are a two person company and we answer our own email.

What we can speak to on the record: what procedural practices actually get asked before and after a procedure, how a practice should scope a patient facing AI pilot, where automated answers have to stop and route to a clinician, and what it costs a two physician team to build and run HIPAA aligned phone and text infrastructure.

What we will not claim: we are early stage and we do not have published outcome studies. We will not assert measured reductions in call volume or staff time that we cannot show you.
