Keith Schmidt, MD, co-founder of PrepQ

Keith Schmidt, MD is a Rush trained anesthesia and pain physician practicing in the western suburbs of Chicago, and a co-founder of PrepQ with Ryan Kuta, DO.

PrepQ started from a problem he kept running into in clinic. Procedure instructions existed, they were careful, and patients still could not reach them at the moment a question actually came up, which is usually the evening before or the first night home. He began by organizing procedure information into a single clinical reference, PainPrep. Turning that material into questions and answers made the real constraint obvious: the content was never the hard part. Getting it to the patient was.

He writes about that gap for healthcare leadership audiences, and about the boundary question that comes with it, which is where an automated answer has to stop and hand the patient to a clinician. Neither founder has a software background. Both still see patients.

Patient Education Has to Work Without a New App

A framework for healthcare leaders evaluating a patient question channel: design for the moment of need, name a clinical owner and a review date, draw the line where general education stops, and measure completed work rather than message volume.

Ryan Kuta, DO

Ryan Kuta, DO is the other half of the company. He is also a Rush trained anesthesia and pain physician, and he is Keith's brother in law. He handles operations. The two of them are the entire company, which is the honest explanation for why a practice talks to a physician rather than a sales team when it calls PrepQ.

Talk to a physician, not a rep

Fifteen minutes, and you will be talking to one of the two people who built it.
